Come In Out of the Darkness
In 2011, I traveled to the northern Amazon in Peru to complete a hand-embroidered lace performance object and costume for a show entitled “Come in—Out of the Darkness.” Working with a group of Shipibo women, traditional geometric patterns (visual music) were sewn and painted onto a 16 ft by 5 ft lace panel and a costume for my performance entitled “Snakesandlace” at Beta Pictoris Gallery. The performance was an improvised “dance" of ritualized, patterned getures on a suspended wall platform, responding to the visual-aural configurations within the hanging lace veil.
